Ingredients
Fresh Green Beans, fill a
plastic produce bag to about the size of a soccer ball or more
depending on how many you are feeding. Snap the ends off
the green beans and snap to desired length, then wash in
strainer.
2 Ham Hocks OR 1 Ham Shank My
preference is Ham Shank
1/2 packet Lipton dry onion soup mix
Baby Red potatoes or regular potatoes cut in wedges.
Instructions for Pressure Cooker
The following instructions are written for the Instant Pot 6
Qt. pressure cooker.
For other brands and models of pressure cookers, read the
manufacturer’s instruction manual for your model to learn how
to best set your brand and model of Pressure Cooker.
Put two cups of water into the Instant Pot Stainless Steel
pot. Add 1/2 packet Lipton dry Onion Soup mix (more or
less to taste) and stir to mix. Add the Ham Hocks OR Ham
Shank to the pot.
Seal the pressure cooker and press the "Meat/Stews" button and
set timer to 20 min.
When done, do a quick pressure release. Add the snapped
and washed green beans and potatoes. If necessary, add water
until the water level is just below the top of the
beans. Press the "Meat/Stews" button and set timer to 30
minutes.
When done, do a natural pressure release for 10 to 15 minutes,
then quick release the remaining pressure.
Remove the Ham Hocks or Ham Shank and take all the meat off
the bone and return the removed meat to the pot.
The beans should be ready to eat at this point. If it
will be a while until dinner, set the pressure cooker to "Slow
Cook" adjust to MED heat and adjust the timer in hours.
Put the Instant Pot vented clear glass lid on the pot, or put
the regular lid on and make sure the pressure release is in
"Vent" mode instead of "Sealed" mode. See manual for
using "Slow Cook" mode. When ready to serve, press the
"Keep Warm/Cancel" button to turn off the Instant Pot and
serve.
Instructions for Slow Cooker
Place the Ham Hocks or Ham Shank in the bottom of the slow
cooker. Add the snapped and washed green beans on
top. Sprinkle 1/2 packet Lipton dry Onion Soup Mix (more
or less to taste) over the beans. Add water and rinse
the soup mix down into the beans until the water level is just
above the top of the beans.
Set Slow Cooker to High until it starts to simmer, then set to
Medium. Cook for 4 to 5 hours total, or until the beans
are tender and done to your preference. About an hour
before serving, remove the Ham Hocks or Ham Shank and remove
the meat from the bone. Return the removed meat to the
slow cooker and add the potatoes. Cook for about 45 min
to 1 hour additional, until the potatoes are done. Then
serve.
